Maria Phillips is a true artist in every sense, seamlessly blending weaving, painting, and writing with a flair that’s undeniably her own. Her style is both classy and sassy, a testament to her creative brilliance. Notably, she also has a passion for Paso Fino horses, engaging not only in riding but also breeding these remarkable creatures. Her advocacy for the breed’s versatility shines through her involvement in endurance riding. The muse for much of her artistry is her striking Perlino stallion, Vudu, whose captivating essence graces many of her captivating creations showcased here.
As far back as 2015, Maria has been crafting paracord jaquimas (hackamore) for her personal use. However, it wasn’t until December of 2020 that she took the leap to offer these exceptional pieces to the wider public. The outcome? A swift rise in popularity attributed to the distinctive styles and captivating color combinations she meticulously crafts.
My curiosity piqued and recognizing the appeal of coordinated ensemble sets, I reached out to Maria with a unique request – to fashion a browband, noseband, Wither Strap for the Breastplate and Slobber Straps for the Rein ends. The intent was to seamlessly incorporate these exquisite pieces into the biothane tack I’ve been providing my fabulous clients. Maria chose some wonderful color combinations where I could choose from several biothane colors to compliment the paracord.
Upon receiving the eagerly anticipated package, I’ve been ardently dedicating myself to the transformation of these “sets” into finished tack. Remarkably, the demand has been so, that these pieces are finding new homes quickly! The inherent versatility of the individual jaquimas, brows, and brow/nose pieces allows for seamless attachment to both Biothane and BETA Bridles, thereby unleashing a realm of creative possibilities. Each hue is a burst of vibrancy, and the final assemblage of the tack speaks volumes with its sheer elegance. Especially modeled on Maria’s horse, VUDU!
